I'm so bored of wearing tights

I took this picture at home over Christmas, just as all the snow was beginning to melt. You wouldn't think it was -3 degrees outside. The dress I'm wearing is from Topshop and its a dream. I can't wear it until I can wear it outside with bare legs and little black pumps.

Rough Trade

My friend and I went to Rough Trade East in Brick Lane a couple of days ago, and while we were there we got our photos taken in the photo booth.
First attempt:
Second attempt:
If only all photo booths, particularly the ones for passport photos, were as flattering as this.

Winging it

I was given this gorgeous ring for Christmas. It's one of those ones that has two loops for your fingers. While it is a brilliant piece of design (the wing is like a locket, it folds out so you have two wings on your hand instead of one), it is very difficult to type with, as your fingers don't stretch as far. I wore it to work and really messed up the muscles in my arm.
It's from Topshop (can't find it on the website) and while it is lovely it broke on New Years Eve (for no apparent reason). I'd definitely give a double finger ring another go, but I'd probably go for one less likely to fall apart so quickly.

Home Sweet Home

I go back to university soon and while I'm looking forward to going back (seeing my friends, no curfew, no dog hair on my clothes, having my entire shoe collection), there are definitely some things I'm going to miss about being at home. Namely; my family, my pets, having my meals cooked for me, having me laundry done, a clean house, TV, and my lovely bedroom, which I got Just Right about three days before I left for university.
I think the bookshelves are my favourite part of my room. I've about 50 more books, 20 more magazines and a lot more DVDs in my flat at university, so for once, my shelves aren't ridiculously cluttered.

Experiments in length

I picked this dress up in Topshop a while ago, and I love it, but it has taken me a while to work out how to wear it. I wanted to try out the mid-length skirt trend that is going to be huge come spring/summer. I like that the slip underneath is the length of the dresses I normally wear (just above the knee), but the chiffon skirt on top is that bit longer. I tried wearing it with black tights but the effect of the longer skirt was lost, so I had to borrow some nude tights from my mother. I wore the dress with ankle boots from Office.

NYE Nails

I know it's been 2011 for over a week now but this has been my nail varnish for the last 8 days or so - I kept reapplying it rather than removing it. I painted my nails with Rimmel Lasting Finish "I <3 London" range and then added the Very Vernis Bourjois glitter nail polish on top. The Bourjois glitter didn't work as well as the Barry M red glitter I used for my christmas nails, but I was still pleased with the results.

Alexa vs Tillie

Ever since it was released, I've always had a soft spot for Mulberry's Alexa bag. But I've always liked bags like that - I carried a satchel to school for years and my Dad has a very beautiful Simon Carter briefcase I have always coveted.
Last week Mulberry released the Tillie bag. I thought that I couldn't be swayed from the Alexa, but I am tempted by the Tillie.

The Alexa is a modern classic and I love it's slouchy leather, but I could see everything I put in there getting bashed about and crumpled. The Tillie is much more structured, and looks much more like a classic briefcase.

Black Velvet

While taking a break from my coursework, I was reading through some blogs, I came across a post on the Walk The Sand blog about this black velvet headband from Topshop (here on the website).
It's £12 (without student discount) and will be arriving at my flat in 3 - 6 working days.
It took me about 30 seconds to see it on Walk The Sand and get it up on Topshop's website and another 30 seconds to have it ordered and on it's way to me.
I've been looking for something like this for ages. In the past couple of months, I've really got into the whole headband look (very late, I know). I've mainly been wearing bandanas, but they don't stay on my head very easily or keep my hair under control as I'd like or keep my ears warm, which I hope this headband will.

Style Envy: Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning, Dakota's sister, is only 12, but she's already made a film (Somewhere, directed by Sofia Coppola, which I really want to see). She has amazing style - wish I'd had her style like that when I was her age - or now even.
She wore the most beautiful pieces of Valentino couture - a gorgeous dress and some amazing shoes - to the Somewhere premiere.
I think dressing someone Elle's age is difficult - we all remember what Emma Watson wore to early Harry Potter premieres. This is the perfect balance; classic and not age-inappropriate.
I need a pair of low heels. Preferably jewel-encrusted, low heeled mules with a bow detail.
I love this Peter Pan collar and headband look - it's so simple and the ribbon threaded through the plait is genius.
If my hair was still long I'd try and plait it like that.
Elle wore this Chanel dress in a shoot for Interview magazine.
I've never really like that kind of dress, but worn simply like this, it's something that I might try to emulate.

Season Confusion

This is entirely the wrong time of year to be thinking about buying a bikini (unless you are one of those lucky folk who go on holiday to the Caribbean in December/January/February), especially given the huge amounts of snow that were piled up against my front door last week.
However, I was in American Apparel recently and I spotted this bra and pants set.
In the store it was in the swimwear section but on the website it's an underwear set. I'd wear it as a bikini, come the summer. The picture doesn't do the details justice, the 3D mesh stitching is gorgeous, and very figure flattering. The set is quite pricey: £25 for the top and £30 for the bottoms. I wouldn't buy it for myself, but I would ask for it as a present, or buy it if I had vouchers.
It also comes in white.
